8-Ender

What could these normally somber curlers be so happy about?

It seems that this is whay they were happy about:

From left to right Skip – Gail Anderson, Third – Melanie Schade, Second – David Jopling, and Lead – Ed Pietruszka scored an 8-ender January 30th, 2006, in the fourth end on their way to a 13-0 victory in regular league play. The foursome looked on in disbelief as the opposing skips rock slid (with a little help) through the back of the house leaving them with a steal of eight.

The final result of the fourth end play looked like this:

In the 2005-2006 curling season Asham Curling Supplies sponsored an 8-Ender competition. Each entered rink was elegible to be drawn for a grand-prize of $8,000. There were 145 entries with 19 from here in Manitoba (click here for the list of entered rinks).

The eventual winners drawn on Jan 28, 2007 were from the Vernon Curling Club in BC (click here).

While Gail, Melanie, David and Ed didn't win the grand-prize, they didn't walk away empty handed either. Here is the "schwag" that each of them have "earned" for their "efforts":

The "Schwag" includes:
  • from the MCA - an 8-Ender Crest
  • from the CCA - an 8-Ender Certificate and a Pin
  • from Asham's - an 8-Ender hoodie sweater, curling pants, socks, water bottle and an 8-Ender Pin
(Click on the image of the pins or crest above to get a closer look.)

Congratulations Gail, Melanie, David and Ed!!! 1
