The AG Curling League Covid Page!
OK so we had so many Covid updates last season, figured they should get their own page! Since we love Covid so much! This could grow too, if we get more Covid updates this season. But since we're all vaxed now... no closures we hope!!
The 2021 - 2022 season!
FRCC Oct 4, 2021 email re Covid Distancing Rules! From Manager Jeff Hodge.
On-ice curling has reverted to pre-Covid conditions, including:
- Masks not required on the ice, but recommended by Curl Manitoba
- No more social distancing enforced on the ice, but encouraged by Curl Manitoba
- The bell near the end of your game once again indicates "finish the end you are in and play 1 more", just as it was pre-Covid
- Your time of curling must be completed within your 2 hour timeframe (1 hour for Stick league). If time permits, you can throw skips rocks to decide a winner to avoid having a tie, where applicable.
And our own AG Curling response to the above!
Ties are back!! Yes, back in the 2019-2020 season we voted to eliminate ties, to improve the tie-breaking and Grand Aggregate determinations. BUT! Because of Covid, the Fort Rouge Club Executive asked last season that we take no extra time to finish our games. Including draw to the button tie-breakers. So we went back to ties in Rounds 1 and 2. And we will continue this in our 2021-22 season:
2021-22 New Tie Rule: Based on our Executive decision and the latest from the Fort Rouge Club: We are continuing with ties. BUT, if the two skips agree, and there is time, you can throw skip's rocks to declare a winner! This is optional.
There are no ties in the playoffs.
BELL RULE BACK TO NORMAL! Yes this had changed last year but we're back to normal. When the bell rings, you finish that end, AND play one more, IF you have time. I.E. Should never start an end at 10 to 7. Even 6:45 is pushing it!
OK now the GOBS of Fall and Spring Covid updates, from the very brief 2020 - 2021 season!
Updates to COVID-19 Prevention Orders - February 10, 2021
(From the FRCC Executive):
Revised guidelines and orders released on February 9, 2021 from the Province of Manitoba continue to impact operations at Curling Clubs and Sporting Facilities in the Province of Manitoba.
As curling and other indoor organized sports are not included in the upcoming phase of the Provincial re-opening plan, the Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of this curling season effective immediately.
All Rougers will receive an email in the coming days with additional information about this seasons membership fees.
We had hoped for a different outcome and are disappointed. We look forward to next season, and seeing all Rougers return to the Home of Friendly Curling in October!
Thank-you for your continued patience and understanding as we navigate these uncharted waters.
